The Düsseldorf artist Pia Litzenberger oscilliates between installation and architecture,
blurring the boundaries between the two genres. Through a systematic play with the
predominant atmosphere, the already existing spatial mood is taken up and playfully
incorporated into the works. The space itself is not a given element, but rather a
component of the works, which is expanded by them in terms of content and finally
benefits from the architectural work created in it. Another important aspect is the
prevailing lighting situation. Like the existing space, it also acts as a predetermined
parameter, which is specifically integrated into the work and used by it. Inside the
exhibition space of the Weltkunstzimmer, the existing architecture supports the
finished work and is simultaneously expanded by it. A kind of amphitheatre is created,
which connects the individual rows of seats with the given room situation like a
grandstand. The artist herself refers to the humorous moment of the work, caused by
the floating rows of seats. Another element to be integrated is an objet trouvé, a root
that she found at the beginning of her studies near the art academy. The surface of the
object appears in a silvery shine unequally to natural roots, due to a certain working
process. This shine creates a dramatic, sacral moment, which is transferred into the
work. Its meditative character is also refered to within the title ‚soliloquy‘, used to
describe a trope especially used in drama. For the subsequent exhibition in Antwerp,
the artist is planning a processual expansion of her work. Unlike the floating rows of
seats a complete amphitheatre will be created.
